Kyuramen x TBaar a Special Menu That Needs A Little Work
Boasting a unique fusion of Japanese and Taiwanese cuisine
Restaurant Artisan Review - By Paul Barron
Kyuramen x TBaar is a cozy little spot tucked away in Chicago that boasts a unique fusion of Japanese and Taiwanese cuisine. On my recent visit, I was eager to try their famous ramen and boba tea, but unfortunately, the service left much to be desired.
Upon entering, I was immediately impressed by the restaurant's charming decor, which features a mix of traditional Japanese and modern elements. The ambiance was relaxed and inviting, making it the perfect spot to sit down and enjoy a meal.
However, things took a bit of a turn once we were seated. Our server was friendly enough, but they seemed frazzled and disorganized. It took a while for our orders to be taken and even longer for our drinks to arrive.
Despite these hiccups, the food itself was a highlight of the experience. I opted for the Kyuramen, a signature dish combining savory pork broth with perfectly cooked noodles and tender pork slices. The broth was rich and flavorful, with just the right spice to kick it.
My dining guest tried the Taiwanese popcorn chicken, which was crispy and well-seasoned. It was a generous portion, and the accompanying sauce added just the right amount of tanginess to balance the flavor.
However, some noticeable lapses in attention to detail detracted from the overall experience. For example, we had to ask for utensils multiple times before they were finally brought to our table, and some of the dishes we ordered arrived cold. It's important to feel like your dining experience is being taken seriously, and unfortunately, we didn't quite get that sense at Kyuramen x TBaar.
To cap off the meal, we decided to try the boba tea. While the tea was refreshing and the tapioca balls were cooked perfectly, it was served in a plastic cup that felt cheap and detracted from the overall experience.
Overall, Kyuramen x TBaar has the potential to be an excellent spot for a casual meal, but they need to work on improving their service and attention to detail. This restaurant could stand out in the Chicago dining scene with some minor tweaks.
